When your client says the assignment is to deliver a dark, moody, dramatic, sexy powder room - an unexpected and exciting space for their guests to marvel - we go to work! It all started with our client's love for oversized floral wallpaper and the hunt for which direction we should take this space into. When we found this moody blue inspiration below, it naturally became the foundation for the entire space.

We are busy with designs upon designs and overdue in updating our blog to reflect some of the exciting work that's taking place in our studio these past few months. This super-sized family room (and dining room) is a continuation of a full house customization of a recently completed new 4500 square foot home. We've been experiencing painful delays due to contractors (which requires its own dedicated blog post to vent) but such is the nature of the industry and this too shall pass :)

The process of space planning is the key element in design. How do we go about efficiently utilizing your space - not too crowded yet we don't like too much wasted space either. It's a delicate balance of adding a variety of elements that both feed your aesthetic desires and lifestyle needs. We all want to live in a beautiful, well organized home and the success of space planning exercise is a major step in getting us there.

When I work with clients virtually - depending on the extent of the request - I put together a design concept board for that particular space. A lot of times virtual clients have a furniture piece they want incorporated, or they may not want to paint the walls, change window treatments, or a whole slew of other exemptions they have that allows the virtual service to be the most convenient and least complex approach to gaining a tailored designer look.

When my clients closed on this brand new build 4,200 square foot house, one of the first spaces they wanted to have renovated was the kitchen. In fact, we did new floors first, kitchen was next. After assessing the massive open space that encompasses the kitchen, dining and great room, we decided to expand the size of the space - nearly doubling its width - and the result below is a custom black-on-black 30 foot kitchen with unique and sexy details.

This highly functional and beautiful design features a soothing color palette, ample storage, a hidden panel for extendable countertop space (for folding), rolling laundry carts, hanging rack and a fold-out ironing board. #winning
